We were seeking a distinct Costa Rican coffee and found it in this fine La Pastora lot from Coopetarrazú. Full of floral and fruit notes with a deep, rich body, this coffee has a musical quality that will captivate your senses like a fine symphony.
This coffee from the renowned Tarrazú region was grown at high altitude, earning it the Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) designation, the highest of Costa Rica’s classification system. The combination of rich volcanic soil, high altitude, and careful cultivation make this Tarrazu a standout in terms of flavor, mouthfeel and satisfying aftertaste.
Coopetarrazú was founded in 1960 by a group of small coffee producers in San Marcos de Tarrazú to establish equal profits and give a voice for small producers in a region dominated by larger growers. The Coop is now one of the most important contributors to the economic development of the Los Santos region of Tarrazú, providing more than 5,000 members with technical assistance, low-cost loans, and affordable fertilizers. 80% of their members are small producers with farms of 4 hectares or less, employing 10,000 people throughout the year in coffee production or in supporting roles.
