Sam's Salmon Sales
Vendor
I am a commercial fisherman in Bristol Bay, Alaska. I have fished on my father's boat, the Williwaw, since 2008. All boats in Bristol Bay are independently owned and operated. Bristol Bay is the largest sockeye salmon run in the world, consistently returning 30-60 million salmon every year. It is often said that a baseline for sourcing responsibly caught and managed wild salmon is to look for salmon from Alaska; Bristol Bay represents the pinnacle of sustainability, responsible management, and quality amongst Alaskan fisheries. All our salmon is net- caught, hand- harvested, and kept in refrigerated sea water until the day's catch (actually twice daily) is offloaded, where it is quickly filleted and flash-frozen to lock in the fresh, wild taste.
Over the years, our family's "fish list" has grown- we bring home fresh-frozen sockeye salmon for friends and family here in the Seattle area. A couple years ago, I decided to offer our delicious sockeye to the public in the Puget Sound area. I distribute boxes of sockeye fillets directly to customers in the fall, and sell smoked Bristol Bay king salmon, premium shelf-stable jars of smoked sockeye, and individual frozen sockeye portions at farmers markets in the area.
Sam Mitchell
I fish on my father's Bristol Bay gillnetter, the F/V Williwaw, with my father and brother. As mentioned above, we hand-harvest all the salmon that we catch in the abundant waters of Bristol Bay. On the sales and operation end, I (Sam) am currently a one-man team. However, I will be looking to add one or two team members when market season kicks off in the spring.
