Salteñas Tukuy
Vendor
I’m proud to introduce you to one of Bolivia’s most iconic culinary traditions — the salteña.
A salteña is a savory baked pastry, known for its rich, flavorful filling and signature golden crust. Inside, you’ll find a delicious blend of ground beef, chicken, potatoes, onions, peas, and traditional Bolivian spices — all enclosed in a slightly sweet dough.
What sets the salteña apart is its juicy interior, crafted to deliver bold, comforting flavors with every bite. It’s a dish enjoyed across Bolivia, often served in the morning or early afternoon, and cherished by generations.
Whether you prefer a mix of beef
and chicken, chicken only, mild or spicy, the salteña offers a taste of authentic Bolivian heritage — in every bite.
Discover the tradition. Taste the flavor. Experience Bolivia.”
Josue & Martha Choquechambi
We are the Choquechambi Wiebe family and we bring the salteñas to you all the way from Cochabamba, Bolivia! My father in law was taught how to make this traditional dish by an elderly lady back in the 1975 when he was only about 15 years old. He was on his own after his mom passed away but didn't let life's trials throw him down! He dominated the art and skill of the Salteña and later on in life this served his family well as they started their own family business. They would make a few hundred early in the morning to sell to vendors who would drive around on bicycles to sell to people as a late breakfast!
Fast forward to 2018, while in Bolivia, I recorded each step and learned right in my in laws' kitchen how to make the Salteña. After practicing and tweaking many times, we have perfected the recipe and brought it to Canada! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do, the taste of Bolivia in each bite.
