Great Dames, Maria and Tina, are local personal chefs who prepare an authentic Cuban dining experience in the luxury of your home. Cuban cuisine combines a delicious blend of flavorful, non-spicy cooking traditions from Spain, Africa and the Caribbean that even children love! On the night of your event, we bring to your home all the fresh ingredients, spices and cookware needed to create and present a tasty three course meal giving our clients the time to relax or entertain guests. In addition, Great Dames provides professional home organization and cleaning services. At 33 years of age, Maria immigrated from Cuba to the U.S.A. to manage her family owned and operated Hatuey Cigar shops in Sacramento, Reno and New York. Three years later Maria became an American citizen and furthered her career by becoming a manger for Morton's, a high end steak house in Sacramento. For years Maria has enjoyed cooking Cuban cuisine and catering traditional Cuban pig roast parties for her family, friends and cigar shop clientele. Big Bear has now become her new home and is bringing a little bit of Cuba to our Farmer's Market, local community members and tourists as a personal chef.
Tina is a Norwegian American who was born and raised in Big Bear. After 30 years living in the Sacramento valley region, she returned to live in the environment she loves. Skiing, hiking and being outdoors with her Great Dane Jiji (the inspiration for the business name) are one of the many reasons she enjoys living in this mountain community. While living in Northern California, Tina met Maria at Hatuey's Cigar shop in Sacramento and that is where her love for Cuban food began and her waistline happily expanded.
