About

Braille With Vision (BWV) is a fundraising project developed by teens who are visually impaired that participate in the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind Transition Program. The Transition program provides students ages 14-22 with experiences that develop important work related skills. Students who are blind and read braille, along with those who have low vision who read print work together to create business card sized magnets that have a variety of quotes (funny, inspirational, etc.) in both braille and print with a decorative background, thus creating braille with “vision”. This unique product is meant to promote awareness and educate the community about individuals who are blind or visually impaired while teens in the Transition Program learn and practice job readiness skills. Students are supervised by teachers, but are expected to interact with potential customers, describe their product, answer questions, and handle money and transactions. BWV’s mission statement is, “Don’t let your vision block your dreams”.
