B-Side Bakery

After 10 years working at ad agencies, Ben Safchuk started B-Side Bakery in May 2023 to bring his unique blend of art and science to baking. Having grown up surrounded by music, “B-Side” is a reference to the “second side” of music albums that were sold on vinyl or tapes. The name felt appropriate as the bakery represents a side of Ben’s professional life. More importantly, the b-side of a music album is typically where the “other” songs show up, These were often songs that the artists loved and had pushed for to get included on the album, opposed to the heavily marketed singles on the a-side. “Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers. “We Will Rock You” by Queen. “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life” by Green Day. Songs that were relegated to the b-side emerged as generation defining jams. B-Side Bakery represents a place where all are welcome, with baked goods that have an artful twist without being pretentious. Confetti Croissants, Crumb Cake (Hold the Cake), Key Lime Cheesecake cookies, Bright Orange Blueberry muffins. Just like b-side tracks, these unexpected flavors and pops of color provide moments of joy in a world that could use a little more.

While the ultimate goal is to establish a bakery + bistro that can serve as an acoustic music venue, B-Side Bakery is excited to start bringing it's unique take on baked goods to the Richmond community through Carytown Farmers Market.
