Punnee is 100% Lisu and was born in the mountains of Chiangdao in a remote Lisu Hilltribe Village. There were no paved roads, no electricity, no running water, no hospitals.
She was raised and lived off the land the same way that the Lisu, a nomadic people have lived for generations.
Social life and most of Punnees childhood memories revolved around food, making clothing & Crafts. In that respect not much has changed over the years.
The shared gathering, preparation and eating, making clothing & crafts is a cornerstones of Lisu Hill-tribe social & family life.
Over the last 20 years as tourism was becoming a large part of Thailands economy they would travel from the mountains to the city to sell their crafts to supplement their farm income.
Household income in the villages average about $500 per year
Punnee hand makes and designs many of the items herself and helps support her family by buying all the crafts they can produce and selling them here in the USA
