About

I raise Coopworth sheep and sell breeding stock, all manner of wool from raw fleeces to yarn and finished goods. The animals are raised on pasture as much as possible with second cut hay fed in the winter. Coopworth is a breed known for it's ability to grow well with a minimum of inputs so grain is fed mostly during late gestation through lactation. I spend a lot of time with my animals so they are very easy to handle. I also have lambs in the fall for meat that is custom processed at a local, family owned butcher.

Production Practices

Pastured

The animals are on pasture from late April until snowfall and fed second cut hay throughout the winter. As Coopworth is a breed known and selected for it's ability to grow well with minimal inputs they get grain rations from late gestation through lactation as well as flushing. Very small amounts of grain are fed the rest of the year to make it easy to call them in from pasture. Routine vaccinations are done yearly and antibiotics are used only when needed medically.
