Serve the City is a non-profit organization that fosters collaboration and networking among churches. Believing that we are "better together" as we seek to find constructive, practical and benevolent ways to help our neighbors. Launched in 2004, Serve The City (STC) is comprised of a network of 50+ unique churches, ministries and businesses in the Linn County area all working together to reach the greater Cedar Rapids area with the love and hope of the gospel. STC exists as a platform for pastors, church leaders, businesses, ministries, and other followers of Christ to practically serve their neighbors together. STC represents a practical way to answer two important questions for our network members: What can we do together that we can’t do alone? What can we do better together?
Our newest initiative, The Care Network, is a specific approach of caring for the community by mobilizing and uniting the local churches and non-profits to tangibly provide unique services and resources.
In the Linn County area, there are many churches that desire to assist people in need. They desire to address needs such as food insecurity, affordable housing, clothing, budget mentoring, job placement, life skills mentoring, crisis counseling, transportation, and many more with ministries from their individual churches.
Each of these ministries serve a specific need but there is very little collaboration between these groups to help address the overall needs of the person they are serving. Further, some of these ministries duplicate a service already provided by other churches or resources in our area. By networking with other churches in their mission efforts, it enables them to provide a much more comprehensive solution for the person in need. Additionally, by networking together, churches will ensure that they are not duplicating missions or services that are already successfully in place, We work hand in hand with area agencies such as Waypoint, Abbe Center, HACAP and Heritage Agency.
