Description
This started out as a maple tree in my neighbors yard. The tree was leaning dangerously close to her house so she had it taken down. I rescued this from becoming fire wood. And I am glad I did,it turns out this is a special kind of maple called spalted maple. This causes all the intricate grain figuration that you see in this bowl. As I started turning it there were sections of the bowl that were pretty punky and had to be removed. I replaced those sections with a deep purple resin and as you can see the effect is pretty nice.
This bowl has gone through an elaborate finishing process, its shaped, sanded, smoothed and then polished to a high sheen. It is buffed and sealed in high quality carnauba wax which will protect and it keep it looking great for many years.
This is one of my favorite pieces that I have made and I hope you and your family enjoy it as much as I did making it.
This bowl is massive, nearly 5 inches tall and 10 inches across, it has really thick walls close to an inch thick and it weighs a couple of pounds.
