DARRYL HARVEY

Darryl Harvey is a 9-time published children’s author and 5 time published poet Chicago. Mr. Harvey is an innovator for black literacy. While in high school, Mr. Harvey developed a love for writing and poetry. He studied journalism at Northern Illinois University (NIU) and published his debut book of poetry (Loving A Black Woman) in 2004, which received positive reviews in Sister 2 Sister magazine.

Mr. Harvey followed up his first effort with more books of poetry before adding children's literature to his skill set. In 2010, realizing that new authors could benefit from a support group Mr. Harvey founded the Chicago Black Authors Network. Subsequently, Mr. Harvey created a celebration event of Black authors called the Books N Brunch Gala in 2015 and a traveling children’s book fair called the Black Child Book Fair in 2019, which is now a touring event that goes across the country.
