I founded Green Valley Nutrition in 2015, following a ten-year quest for relief from symptoms associated with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections)- a rare condition characterized by sudden acute and debilitating onset of intense anxiety, OCD, and tics.
PANDAS occurs when the strep virus triggers a misdirected immune response causing inflammation in basal ganglia, a group of subcortical nuclei in the brain. Subsequently, the child begins exhibiting unusual and uncharacteristic behaviors such as OCD, anxiety, tics, personality changes, a decline in math and handwriting abilities, sensory sensitivities, restrictive eating, and more.
My first visit to the doctor was not unusual. Without hesitation I was prescribed a recipe of mind-numbing pharmaceuticals. While the intention was good, I learned over the following years and dozens of doctors later, that they didn’t have much to offer me other than an ineffective drug cocktail.
During this time I was to be prescribed Fluoxetine, Abilify, Risperidone, Clonidine, Zoloft, and countless others. Some of the drugs seemed to help at first, but I soon developed tolerance to them and began to see their efficacy melt away. Meanwhile, side effects became more noticeable. I often had difficulty focusing on tasks or simply staying awake during the day and struggled with moodiness.
I eventually grew weary of trying new medications and feeling like a zombie as I struggled to complete my regular work throughout the day. I decided that enough was enough and stopped taking prescription drugs altogether. After a decade of seeking a medical solution through more than forty visits to some of the most well-respected doctors across the United States and countless ineffective prescription cocktails, I finally stumbled upon CBD while working on an organic farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.
It was the first time that I had ever experienced relief from my symptoms without the myriad of negative side effects that decorate the labels of modern pharmaceutical drugs. Fifty milligrams of Cannabidiol enabled me to relax during those difficult moments, take a deep breath, refocus, and move on with my life. From my perspective, CBD was a miracle.
Today, Green Valley Nutrition aims to change the public's perception about Cannabidiol as a dietary supplement. We believe that there is a better way.
