Greenside Farm
Farmer/Dealer
In 2018, 25 plus years of work in the areas of fruit & vegetable production, greenhouse production, and row crop agronomy culminated in the purchase of our dream farm, a 37 acre farm in Marshall Michigan. Our goal is to grow and produce wholesome food and ornamental crops in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. We have also developed a cottage line of baked goods, jams, and jellies that utilize the fresh Michigan grown fruits and vegetables we feature. In addition to our own production we work with a few like minded local producers to increase our variety selection and guarantee supply during times of difficult growing conditions. We believe this cooperative approach brings the best variety and quality of local produce to our customers.
We enjoy and look forward to the continuing development of our farm. Future plans include more tree fruit plantings, perennial crops, and the addition of greenhouse production.
We are extremely grateful to all of the customers who have supported us over the past 20 plus years at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market and have been with us through all of our growth and changes. Thank You for your support.
Shawn Newport
I have spent my entire career in Agriculture. Graduating from Michigan State University with and Bachelor's Degree in fruit and vegetable production in 1989 and a Master's Degree in Horticulture in 1992, I worked in greenhouse and cut flower production as well as vegetable and row crop production. Since 2012 I have been an Agronomist helping farmers plan production, procure inputs, and solve problems along with the operation of my own farm.
Besides working and improving our farm, I enjoy outdoor activities, like hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. I particularly enjoy training and working with our pointing dogs.
