About

We are a small farm in South Kent CT producing pasture-raised chicken, pork, turkey and eggs. We are in our fourth year of production and we are getting a small beef herd up and running for next season. We are committed to regenerative practices - for us this means frequent movement of our animals. This frequent movement allows the land to benefit from animal impact and manure, and then a long rest period before being impacted by animals again. We are excited to be part of the regenerative agriculture movement and we want to educate our customers about these practices and how they benefit the land, the animals, and the consumer by providing them with a more nutrient-dense (and delicious!) product. Our chicken was also certified USDA organic this season, making us the first certified organic livestock producer in the state for many years.

Production Practices

Pastured Permaculture Design Antibiotic And Hormone Free Holistic Management Use Only Organic Materials

We produce pasture raised chicken in mobile chicken tractors where we move the chickens onto a fresh piece of grass every day. We supplement their diet with organic grain. Our turkeys are raised similarly - in mobile coops moved daily onto fresh pasture.

We produce pasture raised pork either in pasture or the woods. They are given a paddock and moved every 7-12 days to a new paddock until they are ready for slaughter. We also supplement their diet with organic grain.

We produce pasture raised eggs in a mobile chicken coop and create a new paddock with electric netting every other day. We utilize cows in order to mow the grass ahead of the chickens. Their manure also attracts insects that the chickens love to forage for. The chickens scrape through the manure and help it decompose into the soil quicker while also leaving their own manure which is higher in nitrogen to help the regrowth of the grass. This multi-species grazing system allows us to produce more food and it is healthier for the pastures.

Our chicken is certified USDA organic, and we use what we learned through the certification process in our treatment of the rest of our animals. We only feed organic grain to all of our animals.
