Tom Buckmiller
Tom “TBuck” Buckmiller grew up in south-central South Dakota and in high school worked as a radio DJ for KWYR am/fm where he developed a love for music. Tom learned to play guitar so he could play in church, but quickly found other uses for his guitar...including entertaining crowds with rock and roll and the blues.

As a bluesman in Des Moines, Tom plays with Jimmy the Weasel and fronts the Award Winning Buckmiller Schwager Band, who recently won the Iowa Blues Challenge.

Tom's first album was produced by Matt Woods and features Iowa Blues Hall of Famers: Dwight Dario, Bob Pace, Scot Sutherland, Heath Alan Patschull and others. His second album was nominated for a prestigious Blues Blast Award in 2022 as he partnered with Brian Schwager on "To Memphis and Back."

Tom teaches a blues class at Drake University. In that class Tom brings in some of the best local blues players (including Bob Pace, Matt Woods, Rob Lumbard, Dwight Dario and others) and takes the class to a local blues club and a recording studio.

Tom is the general editor of four books written by his blues class that features local blues players and local blues fans:

Life in the Key of Em: Learning about the Blues is available here:
At the Crossroads: Conversations about the Blues is available here:
Life after Blues on Grand: Finding the Blues in Des Moines is available here:
Bulldogs Backstage: Profiles from the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame.
