How Nubian Chic Designs was conceived
Halimah Akiode, Founder and Designer of Nubian Chic Design was born in the United States, and raised in Nigeria. While in Nigeria, she learned to speak Yoruba fluently, and adapted the cultural traditions. Following, she attended California State University East Bay majoring in sociology and is where her love for fashion surfaced. A year post graduation, she lost her father to cancer. This led her on a journey back to Nigeria. While laying her father to rest in his home country, being in Nigeria reawakened her love for fashion. As her father was very proud of his culture, she decided to forge her own path in bringing her culture and her love for fashion to life.
 
Through this time, Atinuke assembled all she had and started designing African print clothing and accessories for women, men, and children. The birth of this fashion line has allowed her to hold on to pieces of her father and the everlasting legacy he left behind that continues to flourish.
  
 
Nubian Chic Designs
Nubian Chic Designs is an online boutique based in the Bay Area that carries the hottest, most authentic African print clothing and intertwines it with contemporary styles. Each of Nubian Chic Designs items is handmade and imported from Nigeria. While we only specialize in bold high quality Ankara fabric*, our goal is to make sure each of our chic clients loves their items, and always returns. In the near future, we plan to expand and use other textiles and fabrics.
 
Additionally, Nubian Chic Designs has various pop-up shops throughout California. Keep an eye out on our social media pages because we may be coming to a town near you!

The Nubian Chic mission is to create contemporary African style clothing that inspires and instills cultural awareness as well as pride among all mankind that wears our items. With every item we create, we aim to have each chic client embrace their Afrocentric roots and to have every client be proud of who they are regardless of age, gender or race.
