About

The Mason Jar Mama
I canned my first jar of salsa in 2004, as Christmas gifts for my sons’ teachers. I loved it and so did everyone else. I started expanding and experimenting with more items and folks started offering to buy them from me. The Mason Jar Mama was born!
Over the years, I’ve been honored to be awarded blue ribbons at the Washington County Fair, and most recently the Winner in the Pickled Vegetables and Reserve Champion in the Adult Canning Division.
I sell a variety of salsas – the original salsa, a hot salsa titled Burn Your Britches Salsa, Jalapeno Peach Salsa, Hawaiian Heat Salsa (pineapple and jalapeno), Cowboy Candy, and the seasonal favorite - Cranberry Salsa (cranberry and jalapeno).
Each of these is great with a chip straight out of the jar. However, the fruit salsas are best served over cream cheese with a cracker. They are also amazing as a garnish to pork chops/loin, baked ham, and turkey.
One of my best sellers is Roasted Corn and Black Bean salsa – a chunky salsa with roasted, whole kernel corn, black beans, and fresh peppers, and tomatoes. This salsa has no heat and is full of flavor.
Additional favorites are true to our Southern heritage – Chow Chow and Sweet Corn Relish. Both made with traditional southern recipes that are sure to make you remember times of years gone by.
Blessed with a husband who grows an amazing garden, I enjoy making pickled foods the most. They are by far my best seller. All items are made with fresh produce. Top sellers include Dill Pickles – whole, spears, and sliced – with limited availability in spicy. I also sell Pickled Beets, Pickled Onions, Pickled Okra, and Bread and Butter Pickles.
A favorite among customers is Dilly Beans – pickled green beans with a “kick”. They make a great, crunchy snack or addition to a Bloody Mary. And, they really add spunky to your relish tray!
No good cannery or southern woman’s kitchen is complete without jam! In my kitchen, I specialize in Dewberry Jam – when available, based on season. But I always keep on hand Strawberry Jam, Blueberry Jam, and Plum Jam. My best seller is Cinnamon Pear Jam. It’s a sweet, fruit jam that can be eaten with a spoon. Warm it up and pour it over your vanilla ice cream! You can thank me later!
For the holidays, I feature Spiced Christmas Jam. This wonderful jam is made with a blend of seasonal spices, cranberries, and strawberries. As customers tell me, “It tastes like Christmas”.
Currently, I sell my products at markets in Washington and surrounding counties, and in Markets on Main in Downtown Brenham.
I live, garden, and can at my home in Washington, TX. I am a proud 4th generation rancher/farmer of family land. I grew up with both maternal and paternal grandparents who tended large gardens, canned, and baked. I am honored to follow in their footsteps, share their recipes, and share what they have taught me with others through The Mason Jar Mama.
