The Families and Foster Care Coalition is a group of 80+ local nonprofits, individuals, government entities, law firms, and foster parents working together to increase the capacity in our community as it relates to foster care. Our goal: To build awareness and understanding within the greater Waco community through education and mobilization; therefore increasing capacity within the foster care community through community engagement.
I am the coordinator for the FFCC and work in the community to educate our area on the changes coming to foster care from the State of Texas's decision to privatize foster care. What this means for our community is that we need to double the number of foster homes (+115 assuming each take 2 kids) to accommodate the number of children we currently send to other areas. Our area will begin this process in about one year.
