Flora Farm Design

I fell in love with gardening and growing flowers over 4 years ago while at my first home, a Victorian brownstone in Troy. At the time, I was a public school teacher and grew flowers for fun. I loved sharing them with colleagues, friends, family and even strangers walking by. Most people love fresh-cut flowers and I really enjoyed bringing so much joy to others. In 2022, I decided to step out of the classroom and into the fields to grow the farm I’d been dreaming of!
This past season, I grew thousands of flowers on my two-acre farm in Nassau. I consider myself more of a dahlia farmer than a flower farmer because I specialize in them. I grow over 200 varieties from tubers, cuttings and seeds. I propagate my own plants in my 50ft greenhouse.
When I left my education career, I knew I wanted to continue teaching. I’m working on building a site to host kids workshops for students of diverse backgrounds. For eight years, I was an Early Childhood and K-12 English as a New Language Teacher. I loved teaching my students about science and the outdoors. I entered the teaching profession through the Teach For America program in DC and I believe all students should have access to an equitable, high-quality education.
Extended Growing Season
My 50ft greenhouse allows me to have an extended growing season. I use organic gardening products and implement regenerative farming processes. I’m a member of both the American Dahlia Society and Yankee Doodle Dahlia Society.
