About

Pomerenke Provisions is a 500-acre family-owned farm located in the heart of the Midwest in Miami, MO. The farm is owner managed and operated by husband/wife team Brian and Jodi (“team Pomo” as they refer to themselves). Brian grew up on the property and the farm has been in his family for over fifty years. Brian is a third-generation farmer who took over operations in 2014. Although Jodi married into the lifestyle, she enjoys all the splendor that the farm has to offer. Their house, built by Brian’s dad, is situated on the northwest corner of the property, and was recently remodeled by team Pomo. With the addition of modern amenities like air conditioning, hot summer nights are definitely more pleasant.
Other residents of the farm have included two donkeys, Reggie and Regina, seven bison referred to as “the kids”, several goats, hogs, a beloved cat and expert mouser, Collete and an ole grayed snout dog, Buster. Cattle are an integral part of farm as well, but are short timers while they enjoy their time grazing in the pasture.
Team Pomo continues to learn and incorporate innovation without losing the knowledge shared from previous generations. Brian says he can hear his dad’s guidance as he planting or inspecting equipment. “Better check that the tires on the tractor aren’t low.” “Did you fuel up?”
Hands in the dirt can be mentally and physically challenging work. Currently, 450 acres are allocated for corn and soybean production with an additional 30-acres reserved for pasture. Also, 6 acres are dedicated to raised bed and field gardens for vegetables, fruits and nuts.
NEW to the farm, one acre is dedicated to raising to food grade soybeans and another acre for edamame production. Yields from this acreage will be utilized in soy based-products such as: soy oil, soy nut snacks, flour, raw beans, and fresh and frozen edamame. They have been enjoying and eating homegrown edamame from their vegetable garden for years. Finding edamame grown in the US is quite a challenge, and finding it fresh is unheard of. Hence, they thought it worth bringing to the farmer’s market community. There are so many ways to enjoy edamame. Their favorite is steamed right out of the pod just like that served at the local Sushi and Japanese steak houses. Soy beans are also so versatile while so many folks don’t know much about.
Team Pomo cherishes that their farm is a family endeavor and are willing to share farming practices with the community and future generations. It is important to pass on this knowledge and to educate consumers on sustainable practices and where their food comes from. They believe in a food supply that is transparent and controlled by people, while leaving the land in better health than when they acquired it.

What’s on tap: New grains bins being installed, apple trees planted, possibly chickens and beekeeping.
