About
Helen’s Scents was born in November of 2021, when my husband and I decided to start making soy wax candles and soaps at home we are both nursing students and in our free time we love making our soy wax handcrafted candles and handmade soaps. We represent the Latino community since we are both Hispanic. Our very own jars are made out of cement made by us. And our other candle jars are from Mexico Jalisco. Where we buy all of our jars made by local workers who make them out of clay and we hand pour all of our candles.
We love showing a side of our culture with everyone and sharing this special jars with the world because they get a little feeling of what our culture is.
Our handmade soaps are made out of rich oils and we create them from our own little studio at home. We try to make every single one of our products unique which is why all of our soaps have many different colors and scents.
We would love the opportunity to show our Des Moines Community who we are and how candles can bring positivity to their home and how soaps will always make you feel bright, fresh and clean.

My name is Helen and my husbands name is Javier Saldana, we are nursing students trying to get our bachelors in nursing and part time business owners.
A little bit about us is that we were both raised in Hispanic families we are both fluent in Spanish. Javier was raised here in Des Moines Iowa and I was raised up until the age of 13 in Mexico City. When I moved here for school I had no idea I’d be meeting amazing people in Des Moines and years years later I met my high school sweetheart.
Our families support our business so much when we need to restock our Mexican Barro Jars they help by going to the border to meet with my family from Mexico to get them. We are super dedicated to our business it is a great feeling to know people enjoy our products. We have our own little studio at home which makes it easier for us. Right now Javier and I’s focus is to grow our business and finish school together.
