Mission Waco Mission World - Urban REAP
Vendor
Urban REAP exists to create a more sustainable future by providing our community with positive actions that help care for our creation as well as our neighbors. REAP stands for Renewable Energy and Agricultural Project which encompasses what we focus on. With our aquaponics greenhouse, we are able to produce sustainable produce and herbs for the community. Our garden center offers gardeners with organic vegetables and herbs, natives, annual flowers, succulents and Central Texas native and native adaptive plants. We also produce rich compost due to our Compost Subscription Program that empowers community members to compost their waste rather than sending it off to our local landfill. One small step leads to great changes. When we care for our earth we care for our neighbors.
Urban REAP Team
Urban REAP is a program of Mission Waco Mission World, a nonprofit organization. At REAP the staff is composed of Emily Hills, our Program Director, Marisela Cruz Arredondo, our full-time Program Coordinator, and Lili Zertuche, our part-time Program Coordinator. While we may be a small staff we are blessed with the help of a team of interns, of which most of them are Baylor students, and our trusty group of volunteers. As a team we seed, plant, cultivate, and harvest our aquaponics produce and herbs. We take in waste from the community and compost with our Oklin compost machine or by the conventional 3-bin system. Composting is messy but in between dumping buckets full of food waste and washing them, we realize this is stinky but important work. We love interacting with people as they come in to buy our lovely plants, especially the ones we seed or propagate ourselves! It is always a joy to spread a bit of plant knowledge since you can never know too much about plants!
