I am a watercolor artist that create artwork depicting wildlife in colorful and whimsical ways in order to advocate for wildlife conservation. I create various types of products out of my original artwork, such as art prints, greeting cards, waterproof stickers, wooden eco-friendly ornaments, and more (sustainably sourced puzzles soon!). I also donate 10% of all sales to wildlife conservation organizations/charities. Although I have a background in ecology, I believe that art can start some of the most important and monumental conversations that make a true difference and bring people together.
Samantha Dormio
Although I am now an artist, I've experienced many flavors of wildlife conservation throughout my career. I have a Master's degree in ecology and completed a rigorous thesis research project. I worked at a big cat sanctuary and cared for tigers, lions, pumas, leopards and bobcats. I taught students biology and ecology at a community college. I also worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 4 years as a forester and forest ecology manager. What I found is that each job position I've tried has failed to properly speak for the creatures that don't have voices of their own. Wildlife conservation is a vastly unknown topic because it is much more complex than many people know from a surface-level perspective. This is where art comes in! Art can speak 1,000 words in an instant and start a conversations that are necessary for progression and education. With art, I aim to bring people back to their innate connection with nature, their surroundings, and their community!
