About

Hi, we're Darren & Karen! We’ve lived in the city, in the hill country of Texas (both in a small town of 1200 & out in the country), in a small city of about 20,000, and now we are living our dream of being on a farm…that we are slowly building.

Here's a little bit about why we do what we do...
When our son was younger, he kept breaking out in hives at the most random times. The doctor could not figure out why & finally concluded it must be a preservative or other additive used in foods. We decided we would have to try to eliminate as much pre-prepared food from our diet as possible. We have always enjoyed gardening & cooking, but this decision began a new chapter for our family. We now make most of what we eat from scratch. We try to eat as much fresh food as possible, growing what we can…lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, & meat that we raise ourselves.

We use organic, sustainable, humane methods for gardening, farming, & life in general. Right now, we offer vegetables, rabbit meat, duck eggs, turkey meat, blackberries, & a variety of value-added products using our organically grown produce (including ferments, salsas & other tomato products, & low-sugar jams). We also offer 16 kinds of mustard & several seasoning blends, some of which contain our farm products, all of which contain no additives, are gluten-free, MSG free, & preservative free. Our website does a more thorough job of describing everything!
We are hoping to add pigs and dairy goats to our menagerie during 2023.

We focus on heritage breed animals. They are pastured during the day & penned at night for their safety. This is the only time they are allowed access to commercially produced feed. Our rabbits, however, are not a heritage breed. We raise TAMUK Composite rabbits because they are better suited for Texas summers. They are also not pastured, due to predation issues. We do feed them a lot of forage from our garden in addition to commercial feed.
We grow only open-pollinated heirloom varieties of vegetables. All of our compost & manure is used as fertilizer in the garden, orchard, & vineyard. We have several varieties of fruit trees planted, but they are still pretty small. The vineyard contains blackberries, raspberries, & several varieties of grapes.
We have a rainwater collection system for irrigation & animal use.
