About

KC Sunshine Farm is a sustainable farm in NW Indy. We practice composting, low pesticide use and we are solar powered! In 2022, we were delighted to participate in our first farmers market, the Pike Farmers Market. At market, we sell vegetables, fruit, natural bar soaps (product line Falcon Creek Soaps), and fresh jams and jellies. The jams and jellies are made in home in accordance with Indiana and Marion County's home based vendor laws. Using the freshest local or regional fruit and unique flavor combinations, we have seen extraordinary growth in sales as the summer progressed! We were featured in August 2022 on the TV program Indy Now!

Some of our best selling flavors have been Peach Bourbon (with bourbon, lemon zest and vanilla bean), Blueberry Ginger, Pure Pike Peach, Blackberry Lemon, Blackberry Sage, Tart Cherry Bomb Jelly (with lime and a hint of smoke), Cherry Jam with cardamom, Pineapple Coconut, and Peach Melba, among others.

Manager

Christy Krieg
Christy Krieg and Pat Carroll founded Pike Township's KC Sunshine Farm in 2015 and have focused on restoring the 11 acre property with cover cropping and minimal tillage, managing invasive species, and have planted approximately 4 acres of pollinator habitat for wildlife, now certified by the City of Indianapolis as pollinator habitat. The vegetable, orchard and perennial crop business has been a slowing growing enterprise as we have learned to manage pests with intercropping, hand picking and minimal pesticide usage.

In 2022, we double our vegetable production area and added raised beds for flowers and herbs. It has been fun!

In 2022, neighbor Naomi D'Andrea and Christy started selling their natural soaps with minimal packaging to customers at market. The best sellers are Cucumber-Mint (from our own cucumber juice) and the Goat's Milk Butter Bar using Naomi's goat's milk! Naomi has been an incredible partner in our first market year and we can't wait to return to Pike Farmer's Market next summer!

During the 2022 early summer fresh produce dearth, Christy started producing some jams to test the waters and it has been a success, with repeat customers stocking up on favorite flavors and buying jars as gifts for friends and family. This product line also has a focus on sustainability: solar powered production, reusable and recyclable packaging, sugar sourced from Michigan, Fort Wayne IN fruit pectin, local or regional fruits to the extent possible.
