Parallel Nursery
Vendor
Parallel Nursery is a majority woman-owned RVA nursery sustainably growing perennial plants native to the Mid-Atlantic & South Eastern USA. We are not a traditional nursery -- it is our goal to be a nursery for a new style of horticulturalist; one who works to support not only the health of the landscape, but also the health of the community of humans who experience our world alongside those ecosystems.
The plants we sell are grown in a low-impact manner which utilizes our combined 20+ years in horticulture to emphasize sustainability; we utilize recycled material whenever available, pot our mature plants in a peat-moss free planting medium, and emphasize not using chemicals or pesticides wherever possible. Instead, we work to create a healthy ecosystem which encourages integrated pest management, and we teach our customers how to do the same.
Parallel Nursery shows people how native plants can be used to enrich not only their homes & landscapes, but how they add to their culinary experiments, help rekindle traditional herbalism, inspire intriguing art, & the myriad of other unseen ways plants are a part of making life more enjoyable. With our mission of "thriving side by side" we work to build community in a variety of ways, such as partnering with local artists to help them showcase their vision, supporting local and national organizations which help remove the barriers to learning about plants and farming, and especially focusing on advocating for causes that run parallel to our environmental mission, such as mental health advocacy & climate justice.
Integrated Pest Management Holistic Management
Sustainably grown native plants, with a focus on producing plants from seed grown outside without greenhouses or other energy-heavy infrastructure. We emphasize low-impact production techniques, and pot our mature plants in a renewable, peat-free soil medium. Our plant selection focuses on the Mid-Atlantic region, in order to encourage support for local pollinators & other wildlife.
