High Priestess PotArt creates beautiful artwork made with dried flowers, plants and weeds. Yes, plain ole' weeds can make a stunning painting on canvas, wood or even miscellaneous items--to make your next centerpiece a forever one, from pot to art.
High Priestess PotArt was born from the combination of my love for painting with my love for gardening. As a multimedia artist, everyday items are a potential "canvas" for my work. Traditionally, my artistic approach has been on the side of what could be called abstract or contemporary, but one day as I toiled in my vast garden of flowers, vegetables and ornamental trees, I realized how wonderful it would be to capture these arrangements in permanent artistic pieces.
From seed to yield to canvas, each piece is made 100% from plants grown in my own gardens or Detroit-based nurseries and community gardens. As a minority-owned business located in Midtown, it is important to me to be a part of the greening of Detroit. Formerly located in Pontiac, High Priestess PotArt partnered with Grow Pontiac to mentor kids on growing vegetables and herbs and to introduce them to whole foods and nutrition. As part of the program, kids created their own PotArt from plants they grew. It was a very rewarding experience and I would love to do something similar with Detroit's children, especially those who may be living in a food desert.
As long as there is a growing season, High Priestess PotArt will keep turning things green, and red, and blue, and purple....
