Urban Roots Farm
Vendor
Urban Roots is owned and run by Jack Goldenberg, Savannah Dix and Matt Danelutti. All first-generation farmers from the city, we began working together in 2017 and have grown our farm from 9 to 26 acres in that time on land we lease from Garret Williamson in Newtown Square, about 30 mins outside Philly. We use organic practices and careful soil management to grow hundreds of varieties of vegetables, strawberries, herbs and flowers. Until 2020 we sold mainly to restaurants in Philly, then transitioned to a CSA model in response to the pandemic. This year we hope to have 300 CSA members, as well as a large stand at the Bryn Mawr Market and some amount of wholesale business. We're committed to feeding our community nutrient-dense, delicious produce and connecting people to the world of plants and the wonders of agriculture!
Extended Growing Season Non Gmo Use Only Organic Materials Crop Rotation Cover Crops Perennial Crops Holistic Management
We follow all USDA organic practices, though we have not applied to be certified so do not use this terminology in our marketing. We use cover cropping and crop rotation to maintain biologically rich soil. We use only organically approved methods for pest and disease control. We are continually looking for ways to better manage our land and reduce the lifecycle emissions of the food we produce. This year we have plans to convert our diesel tractors to run on waste vegetable oil, and we will use reusable containers for our CSA distribution.
