About

Hillacres Pride grew out of Hillacres Jerseys, a small family dairy farm in Lancaster County, PA that has been in our family for over 70 years. In 2003, we started making cheese from our Jersey cow milk and shortly after, raising our bull calves for beef. As the business grew, we added pork, eggs and chicken. The farm is currently home to 3 generations of of our family. We milk about 50 cows and raise the heifer calves as replacements. We have been at the Headhouse Farmers market since it opened.

Production Practices

Pastured Free Range Crop Rotation Cover Crops Non Gmo Antibiotic And Hormone Free No Till Perennial Crops

We grow 95% of the crops that the cattle eat, including corn, corn silage, grass hay, barley & rye. All the crops we grow are GMO fee and we practice no-till cropping. We use cover crops to shield the land, apply our manure for fertilizer. We implement crop rotation to help with pest control and nutrient management. We have several perennial grass crops and pasture our animals as much as possible with weather allowance. We take several cuttings of hay off the pasture to keep it fresh and feed in the cold months. All animals are raised in a free range model, which allows them to develop muscle for meat that is lean and tender. We do not feed any therapeutic antibiotics or growth hormones. Medications are only used as a necessity for a sick animals.
