After graduating from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in 1982, Albert Young & Stuart Shulman founded S & Y Hot Glass; Michigan's first independent glassblowing studio dedicated to teaching community based non-degree classes. Since that time, S & Y evolved into Michigan Hot Glass Workshop (MHGW) located in the historical Albert Kahn industrial complex currently known as the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.
Albert Young is an internationally renowned sculptor and master glass blower who received his BFA from the College for Creative Studies in ceramics & glass and a MFA in sculpture from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He taught glassblowing for 26 years at CCS while operating Michigan Hot Glass Workshop. He continues to be a wealth of knowledge & inspiration to the studios and artists in the region.
Aside from educational offerings, Michigan Hot Glass specializes is hand blown, original glass designs ranging from functional to decorative. Refined over a 50 year career, these designs embody a life long pursuit of making art and craft in the city of Detroit.
Nolan Young
Growing up in his fathers glassblowing studio in Detroit, Nolan aims to continue his fathers legacy as a working artist and glassblower.
