Triton Soap & Skincare
Vendor
I recently launched my soap and skincare company. My desire to make soap spawned from a lightning bolt moment in the shower when I was using my partner’s very flowery body scrub, and looking at my very stereotypically masculine body care products and thinking that as a queer and trans man, body care products have not been marketed to me and my community. The soap I make centers trans men, queer men, queer and trans people in general, and everyone else, because I think I make really good products that anyone can enjoy. But it feels important to have queer and especially trans men feel seen and represented in this market. My products are playful and they give nods to a lot of queer cultural references. Examples include “the leather bar“ which has activated charcoal, fine black pepper, and a special leather scent that I worked for a year to nail down. I also have a “bear bar”, a “masc of center” facial mask, and lots of cub scrub facial and body washes. I have been selling online for the past few months through my website and Etsy as well as a few in person events and I feel really good about the response I’ve been getting. My logo is of a merman which for me represents masculinity and femininity blending together into one being.

I have a background in public health and direct service work with LGBTQIA young people as well as individuals living with HIV. While soapmaking may seem like a big shift from the other work I’ve done in the world, it feels to me like a continuation. One of the ways I want to make changes in the world, and the way that I want to express love and joy, is through this wonderful medium, making people feel great in their own skin and to help to inspire people to indulge in self care. I am currently a team of one but I have been collaborating with others in my community to push this vision forward.
