Haven Farmstead was founded in 2019 as a partnership between owners Steve Dougherty (cheesemaker & general manager) and Reuben DeMaster (farmer). As a foundation for the most delicious and nutritious products, we are committed to raising animals in a sustainable, pasture-based system and sourcing (o)rganic inputs. This year, we've partnered with Breezy Meadows Goat Dairy, to make goat's milk cheeses as well.
We built our dairy and creamery around the goal of crafting a variety of fresh, ripened, and aged cheeses.
Antibiotic And Hormone Free Pastured Use Only Organic Materials Non Gmo Perennial Crops No Till
Our cows are on pasture Spring through Fall, receiving most of their nutrition from perennial grasses and legumes, and they receive dry hay for winter feed. They receive a small organic grain ration during milking for energy, but otherwise are 100% grass/hay fed. The goat's milk dairy we work with, feeds GMO-free grain, hay, and uses no antibiotics. The goats also graze on pasture.
Our cheese production is seasonal, small-batch and focused on traditional styles, usually 100lbs. or less at a time. Some cheeses are conditioned with high-quality ingredients like truffles, olive oil, and local wines/beers.
