Zio Matto Gelato is co-owned by Matteo Servente and Ryan Watt. Matteo moved to Memphis from Torino, Italy. Ryan previously was the Executive Director of the Indie Memphis Film Festival and Matteo is a filmmaker who regularly screened films there. In mid-2021, Ryan's family relocated to Nashville for his wife's job, and in Spring of 2022 is launching the Nashville presence of Zio Matto Gelato.
Ryan has an arrangement with the Serendipity boutique in 12 South to setup a gelato cart in front of their store on the weekends. Local merchants will also sell the pre-packaged gelato, the first store is the new Little Hats Italian Market in the Germantown neighborhood.
