Rice Culture
Served/To Go Foods
Rice Culture is a local DMV based dessert shop specializing in Taiyakis, a popular winter street food originating from Japan. Co-founders Kevin and Mikki are the two minds behind Rice Culture, with Mikki as the head (self-taught) Baker and Marketing Manager and Kevin as head of Operations. From their humble beginnings cooking Taiyaki’s out of a 1 bedroom apartment, they’ve since moved to a commissary kitchen where they’ve expanded operations to Farmer’s Markets, Nationwide Shipping, and offer a larger menu of rice based desserts that represent the co-founder’s Filipino/Taiwanese/Japanese background. Each day, the two immerse themselves deeply into the day-to-day operations with one goal mind - curate delicious treats that tell a story about our Asian culture and celebrates our traditions.
What’s a Taiyaki you may ask? It’s essentially a fish shaped waffle traditionally stuffed with Red Bean or Vanilla Custard. Our take adds California grown rice flour to our batter for a light chewy waffle. We also add fun non-traditional fillings such as Nutella for kids, Ube Jam to honor our Filipino roots, or Taiwanese Pumpkin Jam when the season permits! Each Taiyaki is made fresh to order and customers can smell us a mile away! It’s also a very entertaining cooking experience!!
We are based inside of Frontier Kitchen. Cassity recommended us to this market!
