About

Jasper Lee Soapworks of Des Moines handcrafts over 30 varieties of all-natural cold process soap designed for DIYers, outdoor enthusiasts, fishers, hunters, farmers, gardeners and health-conscious consumers. We are best known for long-lasting products that do something 'GOOD' for you like 'no rinse' Bug Off Bars for adults, children and pets; activated charcoal soaps for normal, sensitive and acne-prone skin (face, body, feet); and garage, poison ivy and afterbite bars that are highly effective, soothing and moisturizing. We also offer pet products like skunk spray neutralizer bars that remove odors without drying the skin or coat.

Every step in the formulation, production and packaging is done by hand and in as earth-friendly a manner as possible. The soap bases start with ethically-sourced, plant-based, food grade oils. Additives include therapeutic-level essential oils, medical-grade, low ph, hardwood activated charcoal, all-natural colorants and food grade lye (the same type used to make pretzels, bagels, olives and more). Molds are lined with unbleached recycled paper and each bar is paper-labeled and sealed with compostable shrink wrap film (Biolefin). Soaps are also sold in rust-resistant tins and recyclable mesh bags.

My love for soaping began in 1999 after a talk with my grandmother. Her 90th birthday was a few months away, so I decided it would be fun to make handcrafted soap for her that didn’t dry her skin. Long story short, Grandmother Gert loved her 'birthday soap' and I’ve been hooked on soaping ever since.

I come from a long line of DIYers, outdoor enthusiasts, fishers, hunters and health-conscious consumers, so as the years went by, I just naturally started making a soap 'for this' and then a soap ‘for that.' Before I knew it, I had a complete line of useful and highly-effective soaps that had been rigorously 'field-tested' and ‘approved’ by the toughest of critics—my family, my friends and me! LOL!

I left the corporate world behind in October of 2013 and officially created Jasper Lee Soapworks in January of 2014. I love what I do and have since sold my soaps at festivals and fairs in at least 15 states. I’ve been contracted with the City Market in Kansas City since 2017 and enjoy the friendly vibe of meeting people at the farmer’s market and talking with them about soaps, essential oils and natural products.
