Mary Arnold
Light reflecting off facets of the landscape captured the imagination of expressionistic artist Mary Arnold from the start. Her love and connection to animals and the open spaces of Idaho began as a child growing up on her parents’ farm. She spent her childhood taming and naming every farm cat, playing hide-and-go-seek with her dogs in the corn fields, riding her horse to steep-walled canyon or rocky butte, and spending her summers and winters recreating in the Idaho mountains. Animals were her companions and the fields, rocks, and mountains were her playground.

Arnold holds a BBA from the University of Texas, and an MBA from Thunderbird/ASU. She currently studies with art mentor JanyRae Seda. Arnold was Artist in Residence for the Land Trust of the Treasure Valley from Sep 2020-Aug 2021. In 2020 she was awarded a scholarship for the Idaho Commission on the Arts MAP Program.

Passionate about preserving and protecting our public lands and the animals in our lives, she hopes that her paintings broaden a message of conservation and acknowledgement of their roles in our hearts. She is excited about capturing the light in the eyes of an animal just as much as the light on the peaks of the mountains. With every shift of the light, different facets emerge, piquing her interest anew.
