Hi my name is Perry Joe Gabbard and my wife Kelly and I have a family business called Gabbard’s Beads & Leather..
I make and sell 100% genuine leather accessories including wallets, belts, holsters, gunslinger belts, mag pouches, gun slings, back packs, purses, guitar straps, tote bags and a few specialty items. I even offer a buckskin leather shirt based one the one Jimi Hendrix wore at Woodstock in 1969. I also sell skateboards covered in tooled leather.
I began leather tooling lessons while I was 7 but didn’t continue tooling because I didn’t have my own tools. I loved working with suede leathers like buckskin my whole life making my own pow wow dance regalia and repairing others leather issues and wrapping knife and tomahawk handles. When I was 40 a friend asked me if I could make and tool a leather clutch purse for his wife. I punched a used set of tools off of eBay and here I am today.
My wife Kelly makes and sells beautifully designed beaded bracelets, necklaces, earrings, belts, hair clips, brooches and many special order items. She can bead in many styles including peyote, gourd, lazy, flat, brick and on the loom.
As a child Kelly traveled with her family to Native American pow wows and festivals. She learned her beading skills from family and friends along the way. She creates her own designs and works with customers to deliver exactly what they have in mind.
Her beadwork designs and patterns come from traditional inspiration but not excluding modern designs including cars.
Kelly and I married in 2010 and started our family and had big dreams of kids, a big house, a fenced in yard and a garage for my 72 Chevelle. We had 2 kids and the big house, fenced yard and garage but it just wasn’t what we dreamed it to be. The place was beautiful but it was in a bad location for us. We started watching YouTube and seeing several families full timing in RVs and traveling across the USA. We prayed about it and decided this is what we wanted. We sold our 3400 square ft house, yard, garage, Chevelle and too many items to mention to start on the path to get our RV.
We moved to Bowling Green Ky for a couple years. We lived in an apartment for a year and then bought a travel trailer and lived at Beech Bend for some time. We are now back in Tn and have 3 kids. I quit my job of 20 years, kids are homeschooled and we are now prepared to travel to upcoming festivals and events.
We decided to choose spending time with our family and traveling together rather than having a bunch of stuff that seemed important in a big house. I worked so many hours trying to pay for everything I was never home to see my family or the stuff. God made a way for us to make money online and on the road. It’s a leap of faith but what else do we really have?
Kelly and I both love new ideas and custom design,work. We like working with our customers to deliver what they couldn’t find anywhere else or for the right price.
I studied and designed a fringed and beaded leather shirt like Jimi Hendrix wore at Woodstock in 1969. I searched the web but couldn’t find anyone who made it or even a pattern close to it. I studied Native American war shirts and traditional vests and combined them to deliver an exact replica. I’ve now made and sold 11 of them. I fit each one to the customers personal measurements.
Kelly has created many custom orders including hummingbirds beaded with 24k gold beads, 3D beaded flower necklaces, beaded belts, beaded vests, tribal staff medallion necklaces and moccasins.
Our plan is to travel the USA making money at festivals and online. We will be sharing the whole experience together with our kids teaching them about God and the true American history first hand at the historic sites.
