About

The Cheese Lodge, a specialty cheese shop was founded in 1982 in New Port Richey, FL (Elfers old post office). The owner, Alice Mazur originally from Poland by way of Pennsylvania, grew up with the cheese business, way back in the 60's. Being familiar with many amish and artisan cheese factories in the PA/Ohio region, was a great asset in the opening of a "Florida" home for some of these northern varieties. Hence The Cheese Lodge was born as a "Home" for northern cheeses. We have evolved into a much larger variety from the 6 or 7 we carried back in the day. Today we carry varieties from Ohio, New York, Canada, Vermont and of course Wisconsin. Along with many european cheeses . We also source cheeses from the small farmer with a specialty cheese variety that is characteristic to his particular farming region. Our specialty unique to other shops is that we do our own aging with many varieties that we purchase. This involves alot of time for the aging process. I guess being in business in Florida alone for almost 40 years helps. We receive cheese many years before we ever sell it. This is what gives our many varieties such rich and flavorful taste. Our coined line is "Try it before you buy it!". Along with our brick and mortar shop we have many satellite locations through the Farmers market networks and some Flea markets. Our claim to fame is our "Bites you back" cheddars, our aged italian varieties, and of course those squeaky fresh cheese curds. So the next time you see us, please come by for a sample and we guarantee that your" tongue will slap your brains out" when you taste it.
