Castaway is a woman-owned small business. I currently have 4 sauces in production, 2 of which have placed at national sauce competitions. Our extreme heat sauce, Blackbeard's Revenge, was featured on Travel Channel's "Man v Food Nation" in Feb. 2011.
I originally attended the University of Florida as a music performance major, but got sidetracked by the foodservice industry. Castaway was born out of Rapscallions Restaurant, a place my husband James and I owned from 2005-2012 in Land o Lakes. Hot wing competitions were all the rage, so I set out to create a sauce that had plenty of notoriety. I achieved that with Blackbeard's Revenge!
After the restaurant closed, we moved back to Gainesville to be close to our college kids, and I started Castaway once again. My sauces are Blackbeard (HOT but tasty), Ball Kicker (a habanero-citrus-garlic sauce), Mango Chipotle (this one placed second in the Austin Chronicle hot sauce festival, people's choice award), and Growlin' Gator (a mild sweet chili sauce with honey, garlic, onion, and spices).
