George's Best Gyros

The George's Best Gyros food cart first opened for business over 40 years ago by Greek immigrant George Mihalopoulos clear back in 1984. George's Best Gyros quickly grew to become a popular late night stop for college students and local Iowa City residents in the Iowa City Ped Mall. In 2006, George sold the business to Mark Paterno of Marco's Grilled Cheese; also a food cart in the Ped Mall. George's Best Gyros finally added their first brick & mortar restaurant in downtown Iowa City in 2022 next to El Rays on Iowa Ave. You can still find the George's Best Gyros cart in the downtown Ped Mall on almost any weekend night.
