Artist Statement:
My journey through the medium of collages began on screen. Digital collages have allowed me to remaster the images I capture almost immediately. Anything I can imagine is obtainable online and ready for manipulation. However, there is certainly something peaceful about rummaging through someone else's archives and the puzzle-like assembly of physical artwork. By limiting the images available to my scissors, I am pushed to imagine and reimagine rather than appeasing my every design attempt.

Collage art offers the chance to get away from a screen and unplug. What this practice has become feels like a series of mini vision boards without the pressure of conjuring my desires. Better yet, a return to prioritizing arts and crafts. I may even venture to say this skill has been introduced to us all. Whether that be a holiday class project in elementary school, or the sticker collection on your laptop. It is a pastime that is simple, messy, and requires the maker to take up space-- as we should.

The past year has taught me to practice patience and value my inner peace, even if that means finding my own through ‘hobbyism’. This practice is a resistance to the grind culture we find ourselves. With scissors, paper and glue I can produce something without it being a product. I've given myself the chance to create something just because and to be proud of it regardless of the viewership. So that when I am able to share with an audience it feels all the more opportune and divine.
