At Blue Bird Farms we have over 20 years of experience growing. We are based out of Leoma, TN and began a new orchard of special variety fruit 6 years ago. 2021 will have our first harvest including plums(including Shiro and Santa Rosa varieties), Asian pears(Olympic and Shinsui varieties) and Apples (Red Cameo, Fuji, Gala, Arkansas Black, Mutsu and Shizuka varieties). We also have flowers and several varieties of Heirloom watermelons for sale.
Extended Growing Season Integrated Pest Management
We focus on long-term prevention of pests by daily orchard inspection. If any pest are identified we first focus on removal techniques without the use of pesticides. Pesticides are used only after these inspections warrant and only if they are needed according to established guidelines. The goal of these treatments are only used to address the identified pest. Any pest control used in a manner to minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and nontarget organisms, and the environment.
Cynthia And I(James) have had a passion for growing apples and pears of the oriental variety for the last 20 years. Our love for growing began as a small hobby and as a means to continue the craft of farming I learned as a child. We have gained valuable insight and techniques from our travels to numerous orchards and markets that span from Michigan to California, even into Canada (Where the Ambrosia was originated in Kelowna valley of British Columbia). Our home is located on our orchard property and is my Pride and Joy.
We have also carried on the tradition and method of growing watermelons passed down through my family to grow some of the sweetest watermelons in the south.
We derive the greatest since of pleasure from introducing the special varieties of Apples to others and discussing/educating about these apples.
