About

Our farm has been in our family for 5 generations. It originally started with Eli Openshaw who moved back to Santaquin, UT to start a medical practice. After starting his practice in Santaquin the Great Depression occurred and so he bought about 10 acres where he propagated different fruit trees and allowed individuals to be able to work on medical bills they had. Slowly over the years, more farmland was purchased and now Fred Openshaw Farms owns 70 acres of orchards. In the orchard blocks, we have tart cherries that are our major crop and then it is followed by peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots, and sweet cherries. We also grow apples and our most popular variety is Honeycrisp apples. Also, the Honeycrisp apples that we culled out are then juiced into Honeycrisp Apple Cider and with this Cider, we also during the summer utilize it to also make Honeycrisp Apple Cider slushies. Part of our mission at Fred Openshaw Farms is "Honoring The Past and Delivering Quality Fruit Through The Future".

Production Practices

Integrated Pest Management

We follow an integrated-pest-managment program. This entails that we utilize other practices to control pests with in our orchard blocks and only spray pesticides when we have to in order to avoid damage to the crop or trees.

I'm co-owner of our family farm that is located in Santaquin, UT. I grew up working on our family farm and loved being apart of agriculture that after I graduated from Payson High School. I went on to get a bachelors degree in Agribusiness and masters degree in AgEcon from Utah State University. My true passion in live ever since my high school years was to continue to be involved in our family farm. So when that opportunity arose to come back and continue to work on the family farm I jump at it. Currently my hope is to continue to grow our family farm so that it is an option for my kids if they want to continue to farm in the future. As well have the farm be an opportunity for them to be able to learn life skills that will help them succeed in life.
