The Monster & The Child

The Monster & The Child is a youth education and public scholarship business. I am currently specifically hoping to reach potential clients for Youth Monsterology, a book club and educational mentorship program. This project is a five-month program for young people from the ages of 14 to 18. It is designed to provide a fun, enriching experience for teens who want to explore the idea of "monstrosity" in creative ways, connect with peers, and make their voices heard in their communities -- and finish with an independent project that will make them stand out in college applications and resumes.

Youth Monsterology is comprised of two overarching activities: the book club and the independent projects. The book club will last for the entire five months of the program, and the independent projects will be completed over the final three months.

The book club will meet on a private Discord server for synchronous audio discussions every two weeks. Participants will also have continuous access to the Discord server in which they can participate in text channels with one another throughout the duration of the program.

Based on the themes of the book club, participants will develop an independent, community-facing academic, creative, and/or activist project. This will allow them the opportunity to share their valuable insights on the topics they most care about. I will provide close one-on-one mentorship for brainstorming, writing, revising, and reaching out to community members.

I am a public scholar and educator. My PhD is in Childhood Studies, and I created and facilitated a program much like this one for my dissertation study. It was a very positive experience for everyone involved!
