About

Several years ago, I realized that I was feeling unhappy & unmotivated. The stresses that I was feeling with my job were taking a toll on me. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and I know that I make a difference with the kids with whom I work, but it can be somewhat overwhelming. I knew that I needed to do things that would help me feel healthy & tap into my creativity and allow me not only to recharge my batteries, but also restore my sense of joy. I knew that this would spill over into my day job as well, and that that would be a great way for me to continue to creatively engage with my students.

I started with some simple decoupage, but after my husband started playing around with some steampunky art stuff, my gears started turning and this is what happened! It is an amazing feeling to look at mundane, everyday things and see the potential they have hidden away. I love drawing that out, and transform them into something fun, something wonderful, and something beautiful. This has, to my great delight, also inspired my daughter and stepson to make their own art and given us another way to connect and spend time as a family.

As I near 50, I find that I become more creative as I get older. I've dabbled in creative arts for most of my life, but just, in the past couple of years, have found the creative spaces I really love and flourish in; sewing, jewelry making, and repurposing every thing.
As a teacher, I've always brought art into the classroom, most recently teaching sewing to middle schoolers. I am currently the lead teacher at Dwight Rich School of the Arts, helping teachers integrate art into their curriculum and helping children find joy in creating.
