Production Practices

Use Only Organic Materials No Till Low Till Non Gmo Cover Crops

Love Letter Farm firmly believes that healthy, nutrient dense, vegetables start with healthy soils and systems that encourage biodiversity. No-till, or low-disturbance farming helps to preserve the soil biology that supports healthy plants, increased yields, and reduced pests.

No-till or low-disturbance encompasses several different strategies to avoid tilling. Love Letter works at the hand/human scale using low impact tools to disturb the soil only when soil compaction makes it absolutely necessary. Feeding the soil and increasing the organic matter through compost, mulching, and cover cropping builds the soil in the long term, making sure the land continues to thrive for generations to come.

2/3 of the varieties grown at Love Letter come from local, open source and heirloom seed sources, promoting local economies and biological diversity. While not currently certified, Love Letter Farm follows an organic farming approach by sourcing organic certified seeds and materials and does not use pesticides or inorganic fertilizers.
