The 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment - Rough Riders, Inc. was formed for the purpose of creating and perpetuating a living memorial to the unique accomplishment of President Theodore Roosevelt and the members of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment known as "The Rough Riders."
The Tampa Rough Riders are a Florida non-profit corporation and a Federal 501c3 charity. Since 1978 the Regiment has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars both financially and in volunteer hours. Whether providing material goods or manpower, Rough Riders live to get up close and personal with the community where they live and work.
Billy Hogan
Billy Hogan hails from Wakefield, Rhode Island. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation as a Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Rhode Island. He spent the next 24 years in the Army, retiring in 2003 at the rank of Colonel. Colonel Hogan served in Artillery, Infantry, Signal, Airborne, Special Operations and Joint assignments in Europe, the Continental United States and South Korea. He commanded at the Platoon, Company and Battalion levels. His duties took him to Panama, Thailand, Honduras, Spain, Germany, Bosnia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He participated in the Balkans, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Colonel Hogan was awarded numerous medals up to the Defense Superior Service Medal. He is a Master Parachutist and wears the Spanish Army and Honduran Army Parachutist badges. He also served on The Joint Staff and was awarded The Joint Staff identification badge.
He holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Management from DeVry University, and a BS Degree in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island.
Of late, Colonel Hogan served as the President of the Tampa Rough Riders and is now is a key member of the History Committee.
