My name is Laura Vidales. I am a first generation Mexican- American. My family immigrated from a small town in Mexico. You may have never heard of, Aranza Michoacan, but it's the most beautiful small town you will ever come across.
I grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri, with little to no representation of my culture. Thankfully the Mexican / Latino community has grown significantly in the past few years, but I can't help but feel we are still misrepresented in even the smallest areas.
One of my close friends started a small business just last year, and like any good friend, I would do my best to support her. Sharing her content and products, and visiting her at various markets and fairs where she would be selling. After going to so many craft fairs, I was intrigued by the amount of crafters there are, and the variety in products. Still, there was never anything that represented my culture, besides maybe the occasional "Cinco de Drinko" shirt or cup. So, long story short, I decided to make it.
The earrings I create are an outpour of my love for my culture, my family, and my people. They are a goal of representation for me and so many others. I hope to be able to create something for everyone, and for everyone to love what I create.
