My name is April Hendrix-Buckle, I’m a native of Detroit, Michigan. I’ve earned my BA in Fashion Design and Merchandise from Wayne State University, where I focused on couture designs and garment construction. Within the last 5 years, I have launched my own clothing line, Criselle Collection which is showcased in various boutiques, in the metro Detroit area and on social media sites where I style and design my clothing for all types of women.
What inspires me the most is seeing my designs displayed in a front window of boutiques with one of my custom-made garments. I am also inspired by seeking new looks from past trends, finding creative ways to bring them back to current fashion, while keeping it classy and chic. Fashion is all about taking the risk and having the confidence to make that look your very own, which I take pride in, especially when working with my clients. Fashion is forever changing throughout the seasons, it goes way beyond clothes, it can extend to jewelry, shoes and even the way you style your hair.
But what really inspires me is our youths, for these days children are often stereotyped as inactive and uninvolved in their communities, content with sitting in front of their computer or playing video games all day at home rather than volunteer their time and energy to those in need. But there are plenty of children who are spending their spare time making a difference in the lives of others in their communities and around the world.
That is why as a parent and as a business woman I joined the YMCA DPS 21st century as an instructor for the Fashionpreneur Course. Where students got the chance to experience and learn the steps to start their own business in the fashion industry.
While working as a 21st-century instructor, students were given a general overview of the sewing, flat pattern, draping and design techniques. They were encouraged to explain how today’s fashion influence them and how it connects to their everyday wear as well as talking about past learning experience dealing in the fashion world that may help enhance new and additional learning from their prior experience.
It was a wonderful experience to have worked with such bright and talented students. These incredible young people, who have finished the course are now inspired to go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others.
Finally, I have created designs for the confident women all over the world who are drawn to her individualistic design quality. With the encouragement of my family and friends, I will continue to expand my creative mind and build a strong foundation for my faithful and new clients to follow.
