Lovestones Whistler was started in 2013 by Stacey Mathews when she first wandered into town for a weekend and spontaneously decided to call it home. It is made locally focusing mainly on a vast selection of gemstone and resin jewellery and is inspired by the surrounding geology and nature. The collections have a little something for everyone, ranging from copper wire-wrapped mineral and crystal talismans hanging off hand braided hemp chains that place an emphasis on their healing properties, a large collection of beaded lava bracelets in all sizes for men, women, and children, inspired either by local geological landmarks or containing birthstones and astrology influenced designs for each month, as well a kids collection of sparkly glow-in-the dark resin necklaces that contain beautiful biodegradable artisanal glitters or glitter made from upcycled colourful snipped up candy wrappers, color-shifting pigments and acrylics, and seasonal locally sourced foraged plants. Some collections contain locally sourced stones such as various colours of lava stones and quartz crystals. Most pieces have a unique story to bring home, and are constantly evolving with the passing seasons.
Stacey Mathews
Stacey Mathews has been living and working out of Whistler since 2013. She has worked extensively with crystals and acquired her knowledge from working at local gem and metaphysical shops for numerous years before finally starting her own business. She studied studio arts and geology at the University of Saskatchewan fusing the two passions together in jewellery. Her previous part-time work at the local recycling center inspired her to incorporate recycled and upcycled materials into her work as well. She currently works as a massage practitioner when not making jewellery, and is mother to a sweet baby boy named Kaipo. In her spare time she enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding, learning about local flora and fauna, and gardening. Lovestones is her creative outlet to combine all of her experiences and passions into little unique art pieces.
